Discover The Garden Route

My name is Steve Wisden. I’m 67 years old, and over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to travel extensively, playing some truly remarkable golf courses around the world. From legendary layouts to hidden gems, I’ve seen and played many of the best. And yet, in my honest opinion, there are few places—if any—that compare to the golf you’ll find along South Africa’s Garden Route.

Why South Africa?

My journey often begins in Cape Town, nestled beneath the iconic Table Mountain and surrounded by rolling vineyards. Here, you’ll find golf courses that consistently rank among the best in the world—set against dramatic mountain backdrops and coastal scenery that feels almost unreal.

As you travel east from Cape Town, following the coastline between the Indian Ocean and the Cape Fold Mountains, the golf just keeps getting better. Courses are scattered along this scenic stretch, each offering its own unique character, challenge, and breathtaking views.

Eventually, you arrive at what I consider the true golf mecca of South Africa: George. Within a two-hour drive of this city, there are over 30 pristine golf courses, ranging from championship layouts to classic parkland gems. It’s a golfer’s dream—variety, quality, and scenery all in one place.

One of the biggest advantages for travelers coming from the United States is timing. When it’s fall and winter back home, South Africa is enjoying spring and summer. That means perfect playing conditions, longer days, and sunshine-filled rounds while much of the Northern Hemisphere is packing away their clubs.

Getting there is easier than you might think. Many major airlines in the US offer direct flights to Cape Town, where our dedicated team will be waiting to welcome you and take care of every detail during your stay. From golf arrangements to travel logistics, you’re in good hands from the moment you arrive.

And of course, the Garden Route isn’t just about golf. Between rounds, you’ll enjoy outstanding dining at favorites like The Hussar Grill, Kafe Serefé, and Cula. There’s rich history to explore at the Train Museum, featuring beautifully preserved steam engines and antique rail cars. Add to that stunning beaches, the ever-present ocean, and local gems like the Strawberry Farm, and you have a destination that truly offers something for everyone.

If you love golf, great food, incredible scenery, and unforgettable experiences, the Garden Route isn’t just a place to visit—it’s a place you’ll never forget.
